Kamasutra maker to revive Marilyn Monroe in 3D

The makers of Kamasutra 3D are at the Cannes this year with a teaser of their next project, a mega venture, '36 MM 3D'. A biographical drama on the thread of a reincarnated Marilyn Monroe, the movie is an exhilarating journey into the life of the singer actress.

Naturally, the 'MM' in '36 MM 3D' stands for Marilyn Monroe. The movie is produced by Rupesh Paul Productions Limited. And, after auditioning more than 1200 actors from across the globe, the producer will announce the lead actress to play Marilyn Monroe at the Cannes. Reportedly, '36 MM 3D' is scheduled to be shot in Los Angeles from June 15.
The film was announced last year in the American Film Market, which is the second biggest film market in the US. Auditions for the film began last November and the main cast has already been finalised. However, no Bollywood name will star in the project.
Director- producer Rupesh Paul says, "The film chronicles the life of Marilyn Monroe. It will throw light on how she became a star and her life after she achieved success and fame. It is a flashback story and its trailer will be shown at Cannes."  A huge set for the film is being constructed in Universal Studios and the shooting will start in the first week of September this year, reveals an insider.
36 MM 3D would be directed by the same director of Kamasutra 3D, Rupesh Paul. The young director is a veteran filmmaker with movies like 'Saint Dracula 3D' 'Janthu' 'My Mother's Laptop' and 'The Painter and the Virgin'. In fact, Kamasutra 3D grabbed headlines with three Academy long- list nominations including best motion picture. It is widely speculated that the movie will be shot in Monocrome. If so, this would be the world's first monochromatic movie on 3D. The poster of '36 MM 3D' would also be unveiled at the Cannes. In Cannes!

Sidharth Malhotra attracts horror

Romance, comedy, thriller... Sidharth Malhotra has almost tasted different types of genres. What next? Horror!! If all goes well, the handsome actor will be seen in the sequels of the popular horror series of 'Raaz' and 'Murder'.

Apparently, Sidharth, who worked these days with Mohit Suri in his latest venture 'Ek Villain', has impressed the filmmaker with his performance so much that he is considering roping the actor for the scary flicks. However, nothing is concrete yet and we wonder if Sidharth will be interested to taste the horror flavour...

Also Priya is confident that Hirani will do a great job. As of now, things are yet to be finalised and meanwhile Ranbir is very busy with various movie projects.

Saif & Riteish give Ram Kapoor a facial!

Sajid Khan has been shooting for the much awaited laugh riot ‘Humshakals’ in the beautiful locations of London. Recently the team was shooting a sequence with the three actors- Saif, Riteish & Ram Kapoor where the former- (Saif & Riteish) had to put little butter on Ram’s face.

At first Ram was quite hesitant thinking as he thought the amount of butter would be quite a lot but later on gave in, when he was assured that it would be very little, informs a source close to the Production team. But the wicked duo Saif and Riteish had something else in mind. When the shot was on they got carried away and put a lot of butter on Ram’s face, almost 5Kgs of it!!! Within minutes Ram s entire face and hands was immersed in butter and it was difficult to even see his expressions. Sajid too did not tell a cut and was enjoying the entire impromptu act done by Saif & Riteish. Well Ram’s surprised look is very well captured and will be seen in the final cut too!

Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan talk in code language

Amitabh Bachchan and wife Jaya have a code language. Hold your horses. It’s not a secret dialect like the infamous ‘P’ lingo. But it seems that whenever the couple doesn’t want anyone around them to know what they are talking about, they converse in Bengali. Now this is one conversation we’d love to overhear.

"Surviving in any industry isn’t easy"

What is the kind of response you’re getting for Samrat & Co.?
It’s fantastic. Although, there are a few people who haven’t been positive about the film but I rather concentrate on the others who have. The film is excellent in terms of technique and story-telling. I do have a few reservations with the film but it’s been a great experience working in it. I haven’t seen any film like Samrat & Co. which is true to its genre.

Do critics matter to you?
Critics are important. Any sort of reaction is important. But I do not respect an opinion of a person who hasn’t even seen the film. I am confident that my film is good. Now, if it faces criticism then it only means either my sensibility is muddled or the critics are far too intelligent.

The film is being touted as India’s Shrelock Holmes...
My character is modelled around Sherlock Holmes but how many people in India have actually seen Sherlock Holmes? Maybe a few reviewers. Samrat & Co. is purely a Hindi detective film you haven’t seen in the past.  Some of the sequences in the film are outstanding.

Which are your favourite detective films?

I haven't really seen too many detective films because there haven’t been too many detective films, except Sherlock Holmes. Hopefully, with a positive response to Samrat & Co. our industry will willingly invest more money in this genre of films.

How was it working with Rajshri productions?
Fantastic! My friends had told me how hospitable the production house is and I experienced it fully. They take care of their artists, technicians and there is absolutely no stress on the sets.

Why you are so choosy about films? The kind of films I want to do don’t happen in bulk. I have two choices. Either I do all kind of films and become a run-of-the-mill actor or I stick by my conviction and wait for scripts that excite me. The producers should be asked why they’re not experimenting with concepts. If I was a producer, I would’ve made 3-4 films a year, which has the potential to offer something different to the audience. For instance, with Samrat...I knew the makers would do justice to the film. There have been instances in the past when I’ve worked on films which got shelved because the producers did not know what filmmaking is all about. I’ve wasted my time on bad films but not anymore.

You think you’d get lost in the crowd if you take too many breaks between each film?
No. When I was doing Television, people kept asking me why I took breaks because Television is a medium wherein if you’re not on screen every day, then your audience forgets you. But experience has taught me that I must always go with my conviction. The world will keep posing questions and doubts but you must hear them out and eventually go with what your heart has to say.

Hmmm...
People have told me to do more advertisements and make money while I’m doing films but that’s not the way I operate. And I’ll never do commercial films. I have a brain to not do a no-brainer of a film.

Are you happy with the way your career is shaping up?
There have been a few moments which have been a learning experience for me. For instance I’d signed a film called Joker but it got shelved and the producers fooled me into signing another film called Will You Marry Me which got released but didn't work. Other than that, I’m happy with the work I’ve done. I did Television, hosted a show and acted in films like Aamir, Shaitan, Table No. 21, Soundtrack and now Samrat & Co. What more can I ask for? All these decisions have been mine so even if they haven’t worked, I have no regrets. I haven’t taken anyone’s support and they all have been my proud achievements.

How difficult is it to survive in this industry?
(Smiles) Surviving in any industry isn’t easy. If you’re focused and hardworking, you’ll survive. If you have conviction, a strong will, talent and sincerity, you have everything!

Any chances of you reviving Sach Ka Saamna?

There has always been a huge demand for Sach Ka Saamna. Wherever I go, people keep telling me that I should come back with another season. But it’s a huge task to put up a show like this so whenever the producers approach me, I will definitely consider it.

You started your career with Anurag Kashyap’s Shaitan but after that you haven’t worked with him...We all are professionals. Whenever the right subject comes my way from him, we’ll definitely work together. When Aamir released, Rajkumar Gupta and I had decided that from here on, we won’t work with each other for at least three years together. And we were clear that we won’t feel bad about each other working with other actors and directors. If we have to be friends we should not have any expectations from anyone. So the question does not come up that I should be working with Anurag Kashyap, Bejoy Nambiar or Rajkumar Gupta. Because if that’s the case then how would I end up working with Kaushik Ghatak on Samrat & Co.?

How has life changed after marriage?

Today after I pack up from the set, I go straight to my place. Before marriage, I used to go partying without worrying much about going to my house. And not much has changed because of my partner Manjari. I think she ensures that nothing changes in terms of my life. She’s happy the way I was and the way I am. She’s a secure, confident and a positive woman.

Looking forward to fatherhood? My wife and I haven't really thought of starting a family. I think may be once we are done with all the partying and travelling, we will extend our family. I’m sure that it's going to be a different kind of a beautiful world. I love kids. Manjari and I love kids.

Has any big filmmaker approached you for any film and you’ve declined?
There have been times when so-called commercial filmmakers have approached me and I’ve said no to those films. And I haven’t regretted that. Those characters weren't going well with my personality. I knew that I will not be able to do justice with those characters. Even though people thought that I should be working with certain camps. I think it’s good to be a camp of your own. Rather than being part of camps.

Big B’s sweet gesture for Kajol

A while ago, at a fashion show, where Amitabh Bachchan was walking the ramp, Kajol and her sister Tanisha were present as guests. According to an onlooker, the sisters on reaching the venue directly went to meet the Big B in his vanity van. It seems after chatting for a while, when Kajol was heading out, the actor immediately stopped her and told her to be careful while she walked out, as she was in heels and the ground was uneven. On sensing Kajol’s apprehension in walking on the rough ground in heels, Amitabh then held both the sisters’ hands and escorted them to the venue. Now that’s what we call a true gentleman.

Vidyut Jammwal performs anti gravity yoga

Vidyut Jammwal's new addition to his intense physical fitness training routine includes Anti Gravity Yoga and Suspension TRX. It is the first time anyone is India has taken on such a form.  He is performing it for his death defying aerial stunt sequence for his next - Tigmanshu Dhulia's Yaara

Says a source, "After giving Vidyut a free hand to design his own action in Bullett Raja, Tigmanshu has yet again decided to handover the reigns of stunt design to Vidyut for a certain death defying gang combat scene. The scene is believed to be one where Vidyut is meant to be a guerrilla attacker leaping in from a great height. Inorder to ensure greater ease with aerial suspension and movement, Vidyut has himself decided and incorporated Anti Gravity yoga and Suspension TRX along with his existing martial art Kalaripayattu training as part of his intense workout regime. He's also simultaneously working with Tigmanshu and his own stunt team to create the sequence design and have it fit in perfectly with the given situation."

Anti Gravity yoga is a cutting edge form of traditional Salamba or Supported Yoga that requires the body to partake in asanas specially done while being suspended. With Suspension based TRX training, one uses their own body weight and gravity as resistance when suspended from rings, ropes, harnesses, flexi hammocks and trapeze bars. It shows astonishing result on the sheer shape of the physique, increases core strength, increases the body's ability to adapt and cope and makes the body extremely athletic.
